Developments Regarding the Long-Awaited Avatar 2 Movie

The first  Avatar  sequel is called  Avatar : The Way of Water , Disney announced at CinemaCon on Wednesday, perhaps the biggest indication that the long-delayed film will actually be released on December 16.  We may have even more potential evidence soon, as the first teaser trailer will debut alongside Doctor Strange in Multiverse of Madness, which hits theaters May 6.

Here’s Disney’s rather vague synopsis of the film:

Set more than a decade after the events of the first film,  Avatar : The Way of Water  begins to tell the story of the Sully family (Jake, Neytiri and their children), the problems that follow them and how long they fought. each other’s safety, the battles they fight to survive, and the tragedies they endure.

I want to draw your attention to this “begins to tell” language because  The Way of Water isn’t  the only  Avatar movie you have to look forward to. Avatars 3, 4  , and  5  are also in development, each set to be released approximately two years after the last. It was stated that each of the 4 previously announced sequels will be released as separate films. Cameron said the film was made for the big screen. “We wanted to push the boundaries of what theaters could do,” he told the audience.

The first  Avatar  was released in 2009 and remains one of the highest-grossing films of all time. But if you’re a little confused about the film’s details—and I can’t blame you if that’s the case—Disney  will re-release Avatar in theaters on September 23.
